Instructions:

1. The ground beef should be browned over medium-high heat in a big skillet or Dutch oven until it is no longer pink. Eliminate any surplus fat.
2.  To the skillet containing the cooked ground beef, add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Simmer the veggies for five to seven minutes, or until they are tender.

3. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, water, brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss to blend well.
4. Once the flavors are well-balanced and the sauce has thickened to the proper consistency, reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture, stirring from time to time, for 20 to 30 minutes.

5.
To taste, add salt and pepper for seasoning.
6. Enjoy the sloppy joe mixture by serving it on hamburger buns!
7. The whole family will love the tasty and juicy sloppy joes that come from this recipe. You are welcome to change the spice level and seasonings to suit your tastes.
