Simple apple pie recipe

 

Ingredients:



Regarding the Pie Crust:



  • two and a half cups all-purpose flour
  • One cup of chilled, diced unsalted butter
  • One tsp salt
  • One spoonful of sugar, granulated
  • 8 to 10 tsp ice water

Regarding the Apple Filling:


  • 6–7 medium-sized apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), cored, peeled, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup of sugar, granulated
  • One-fourth cup brown sugar
  • Two tablespoons of flour (all-purpose)
  • one tsp finely ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, ground
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • One tablespoon of lemon juice
  • One tablespoon of small-cut unsalted butter

Regarding Egg Wash:


  • One egg and one tablespoon of water

Instructions:

1. Get the pie crust ready:


  • Combine the granulated sugar, salt, and all-purpose flour in a sizable mixing basin.
  • To the flour mixture, add the cubed, chilled butter. Until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, cut the butter into the flour with a pastry cutter or your fingers.
  • One tablespoon at a time, gradually add the ice water and stir with a fork until the dough comes together. Don't overwork the dough, please.
  • Separate the dough into two equal parts, form each into a disk, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for a minimum of 60 minutes.

2. Get the oven ready:

Turn the oven on to 375°F, or 190°C.

3. Get the apple filling ready.

Sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and ground cinnamon should all be combined in a big bowl with lemon juice. Toss the apples until they are coated all over.

4. Unroll the crust for the pie:


  • One pie dough disk should be rolled out into a circle big enough to fit your pie dish on a surface dusted with flour.
  • The rolled-out dough should be carefully placed in a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges of any extra dough.

5. Put the Pie Together:

  • Evenly distribute the apple filling throughout the prepared pie shell. Sprinkle little bits of unsalted butter over the filling.
  • Cover the apple filling with the second pie crust disk that you have rolled out. To seal the pie, trim off any extra dough and crimp the edges.
  • Make indentations on the upper crust to release steam while it bakes.
6. Wash an egg:


To make an egg wash, mix the egg and water together in a small bowl.
Apply the egg wash to the pie's top crust.

7. Bake:

Spread a baking sheet underneath the pie to catch any drips. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes in a preheated oven, or until the filling is bubbling and the crust is golden brown.

8. Refrigerate before serving:

Before slicing and serving, let the pie cool for at least an hour on a wire rack. Serve hot or cold, with the option to top with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
